^ not by branding, but it has effectively similar standards to all the R routes in Metro Vancouver, except it lacks a 'next bus' screen at stops. Don't need it, really, at the 99's frequencies.

Ya, we couldn't even agree to shut down a half dozen parking spots on 101st. We will never inconvenience drivers on Whyte for real BRT. I would put good money down that we will end up with a BRT branded system that is only marginally better than current bus service.

True. But the city also removed a lot of parking for the Valley Line and for cycling infrastructure. I don't think we can say what the final product will look like.

Engagement is underway to seek feedback on two key areas of Route B2:
  • 82 Avenue: The dedicated lanes (curbside or centre-running) for BRT on 82 Avenue between 109 Street and 83 Street
  • University Area: The streets and avenues that BRT will use between 109 Street and the University Transit Centre

Tuesday, June 9
Strathcona Community Hall: 10139 – 87 Avenue NW

  • Meet with the Project Team between 5:30 - 8pm
  • 82 Avenue presentation at 6:30pm
Wednesday, June 10
McKernan School: 11330 76 Ave NW
  • Meet with the Project Team between 5:30 - 8pm
  • University area presentation at 6:30pm
Draft concept plans will be presented for feedback in fall 2026

As much as I love the idea of centre running lanes (fewer interactions with other vehicles, feels more like a train), the curbside lanes might be better in this case. Previously I didn't think about how other bus routes wouldn't use the centre lanes because they'd have fewer stations than they need, so they'd be stuck using the single lane of traffic. Curbside lanes allow all buses to use them which will drastically speed up all the routes along whyte. Yeah, the BRT will be slowed down because of that but it will be so much better for transit users if the bus and BRT stops are similarly accessible.

That being said, I really don't like the station placements at 93 st and the eastbound one at 83 st. I hope they can find better spots for them.

Also love that they're planning to remove all parking on whyte ave for both options. It'll be a much better pedestrian experience when this is all done.

Yeah the eastbound stop at 83 Street really needs to be nearside before the train tracks. Would require rebuilding the turn lane and banning parking on the access road but the current transfer to Bonnie Doon LRT is not good enough and their proposal does not go far enough to address the issue.

I even think there's enough room for the station right after the 85th street intersection. Its already only one traffic lane before the intersection, delaying the change to 2 lanes and shortening the right turn lane a little bit doesn't seem like it would be a big issue.

The right turn at the 112 Street light from Whyte Avenue is always packed in morning rush hour, partly caused by deliveries at College Plaza. I think going around University Avenue to turn right at 114 Street might work.

I can't speak for everybody, but I think a mix of centre and curb lane BRT might work. Curb lane along Whyte from 83 to 91 Street, and 99 to 109 Street could work (given the businesses). The sections with trees (95-99 Street and 109-112 Street could have centre BRT lanes.
