I suppose you've never self-medicated before?
Again, no one is entitled to do illegal things. Not sure the point you’re making.

When someone has a bad day, is it cool to smash a bus stop to get the anger out? We shouldn’t accept antisocial behaviour that harms other innocent people. If my kids are playing at beaver hills, they deserve to be safe from people getting drunk who often have a myriad of other challenges that pose risks to other people nearby.

If they want to sit nicely and drink wine from a yeti mug and then leave the area without causing a scene, go for it. But that’s not what people are naming here.

It really depends on the style of drinking. Sadly we don't have a culture of drinking in a leisurely and civilised way in the streets like they do in large parts of Europe.
I half-agree with this, and I do gladly drink in public every time I'm in Germany. But I also do see a lot of drunken shenanigans there that result from public drinking. I've never seen more broken glass on the street than in Berlin after a festival, and one time in Dresden I saw a group of early 20-something men in a circle on the sidewalk all pissing into the center. I'd presume that people who choose to live in those cities mostly feel that the benefits outweigh the costs.

Just got back from europe, they still have their problem drinkers with their puffy red noses and bleeding fingernails.

People are people, everywhere.

Maybe because we made alcohol such a taboo in North America that people don't learn it early on in their lives. It always baffled me that drinking in public here was such an issue, whereas anywhere else in the world it is perfectly normal.

This park so far has been a great representation of the “success of parks is determined by what we surround them with, not what they give to us” The worst part of this park is by far the complete lack of peacefulness you go to a park for, thanks to the combined 10 lanes of traffic on Jasper ave and 105st around this park. The noise from traffic is incredibly overbearing and no amount of landscaping will fix this. After this, the residual habits of homelessness and drug use in the park combined with police/peace officers apparent complete unwillingness to patrol any part of downtown on foot is imo the 2nd biggest issue with this park. If these 2 issues could be rectified and an enjoyable link was made from this park and Odaymin park, this would be an incredible urban oasis
