We’re getting lots of Danny Dough for “studies” though…..so that’s something?lol
Our Drug distribution building is almost done….so that’s a wash with YYC. We have a bunch of Bridgeland type buildings being built….1 in SP, 1 Spruce G, 1 in the west end and 1 other .Edmonton is not getting the health facility money it needs - we've had huge growth.
Meanwhile, the money for YYC health projects alone surpasses everything we got for downtown, Coliseum, grants in lieu of taxes.
Just part of YYC's haul: new office of the chief medical examiner, which will receive $45 million over three years; the Bridgeland Riverside Continuing Care Centre, which will get $64 million; a new central drug production facility that will receive $61 million; and the future Calgary Radiopharmaceutical Centre, which will receive $54 million.
Another couple of months for the Central Pharmacy but AHS will take time to get it up and running. There is supposed to be a similar building in Calgary so we should see that. Our Drug distribution building is almost done….so that’s a wash with YYC. Apparently the 3 new health centers we're getting - not sure it even says that in the budget - is 2 more than YYC. What is the scope of these "centers?" I see an abandoned warehouse with some used office furniture thrown in and voila!!! There we have a health center. Not sure why Braid is jealous of these.....![]()
Braid: The UCP has come out with a terrific budget — for Edmonton
The new budget comes with a big dose of Edmonton favouritism. Much as I appreciate our beloved capital, this is galling.calgaryherald.com

The funding is to do the initial stages of business cases for two separate towers:I don't know what the 350 beds means, but I suspect that is the total for the two hospitals, not each. I wonder if that involves constructing new space or just using existing space.
Like I said, this is just funding for the initial stages of the business cases. And even once those are done, there's still the functional planning (and perhaps needs assessment), plus preliminary and detailed design, before these would go to tender.Haven't seen anything from AI or AHS on these towers so not this year. And even then expect 4 years. Grey nuns is expanding the ER once outpatients move to the new Covenant Wellness Community in Sept.
Good to know a bit more about this, it sounds good. Because of the replacement it is actually a bit more than 350 beds, around 390. Hopefully this will happen.Like I said, this is just funding for the initial stages of the business cases.
