Upon returning to Ottawa from my cottage today noted 3 bore holes were drilled from the above photos for a total of 9 holes.

2 single detached residential dwellings still to be demolished. Noted one had laundary hanging in the backyard so it is still occupied.

There was an excavator working on the site this morning, digging some fairly wide holes. Presumably doing more site prep or soil work. I have a hunch phase one (the building fronting Roosevelt) will start next year.

It's just the one excavator but it's been working all week and was drilling rock last night. A wide swath in the area of phase one. Seems this one may actually be starting.

I assume the 13 floor tower is phase one. The other is 14, so no noticeable difference.

Snow made it really not worth but they are only in the Roosevelt side. Isn’t too much action. Doesn’t appear to be serious excavation starting.

From what I see it seems its a start. Top soil removal is the first step of any excavation when present

They already removed the top soil from half of the site in the fall, so maybe they're doing the rest of it now. Anyway will keep an eye on it, but I do suspect this project is close to finally starting construction.

This has to be the longest proposed project that hasn't completely died/been sold repeatedly/development hell kind of thing.

Aug 19th, 2011 on SSP is the first mention of it.

IMO the site is undergoing soil remediation. I walked by twice this week and noted the following. Certain areas were roughly marked out with orange paint. The areas where soil was being removed seemed selective. The excavator was working slowly. Two dump trucks were on site today and soil was being removed. Finally I could smell an oil and gas fuel type smell. Also there are two houses to be demolished and they are not even fenced off yet. According to the site plan the houses still standing are part of phase 1. Until those houses are gone formal construction has not started.

Ah I didn’t realize they had to demolish houses for phase 1. Maybe it’s still going to be a while then before things get going.

Photos of on going soil remediation. Worker was seen collecting soil samples in plastic bags and measuring the depth of the sample along that edge of the excavation in the photo.
