Still no word on what will happen to KDays when redevelopment of the exhibition grounds finally gets going.
I think K-Days will be fine for the next 3 decades at least. There is so much developable property on the Exhibition Lands and K-Days takes up only a small sliver of that.

Judging by the Quarters, I wouldn’t hold my breathe. I don’t see anything happening here after the coliseum demolition for ten years.
I agree not much is going to happen, but the comparison to the quarters is not the best. The city owns the whole development area for exhibition/coliseum and can dictate pace/plans. With the quarters it's a piecemeal of independent owners, many of whom are absent owners who are just holding on for speculation. The city has minimal control of the actual development in the quarters. Nothing will happen with the expo grounds because of the city's limited capacity and stubborn refusal to implement a municipal development corp.

I would agree, bureaucratic inertia and lack of understanding how to properly market and develop are probably the biggest obstacles here. However, at least unlike the Quarters, it does not have the stigma of being such a bad area.

Did any of you go to the Heritage Festival this past weekend?

I was there today for the performances (my favorites were the Irish dancers, the Lebanese dancers, the Japanese drum troupe and the Indigenous dancers), the food (my favorites were the Cuban pork sammich and the BBQ pork steamed bun from Taiwan) and the costumes (my favorites were from Azerbaijan and Palestine). Although it's nice for the Heritage Festival to be at the Exhibition grounds c/w LRT rides there and back, I can't wait until it's back home at Hawrelak Park where I can cycle to it.

I've never been to the Folk Fest because tickets are almost always sold out.

I always find the music just ok, but love the venue, atmosphere and opportunity to celebrate the summer overlooking the city.
