The diameter is for aerodynamic reasons. At high speeds a narrow loading gauge would make air resistance and drag quite high.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Their promises are more like aspirations... My take is there is a vaguely set goal of 2038-2040ish for 15 min service all-day (weekends and/or weekdays?) for the two Lakeshore lines. Before then, I have exactly 0 expectations. Way too easy to be disappointed, otherwise.

Yeah, I'm a bit tired of hearing "it's only condensation", "it's just moisture from the air"... The walls are plain concrete, you can tell when water is seeping through.

Rent seeking behaviour. We maintain your vehicles, we want more money in the future to account for "inflation"; no, you can't run them any faster than molasses, that'll hurt our bottom line. (Molasses is an exaggeration, some riders on Line 6 have recorded very quick trips)

One day, battery tech for large passenger trains, I don't doubt that. Although I suspect I'm not the only one sick of being told BEMUs are the next sliced bread, soon to be on GO transit by 202x, 20xx...

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

It's on topic because it speaks to the actual necessity of Billy Bishop existing as a heliport of sorts. And hypothetically, who would be against Billy Bishop expanding just for the sake of saving more lives and improving healthcare access? If it's so the airlines, JP Morgan et al, as well as...

There is evidence that a court will accept and there is the sort of info that is gleaned from discussions on UT. We know Citadis Spirits are defective. Alstom is apparently working on a fix for Ottawa. We know Line 6 has had more teething issues and reliability issues than Line 5, and worse...

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

Genuine question, what were the bulk of flights into St. Michaels for? Sometimes I'd hear them land and take off multiple times a day.

Anyways, battery EVs > hydrogen vaporware. Battery trains and electric and diesel trains> no trains at all. Seeing how risk-averse Mx is, I doubt a relatively unproven tech such as battery trains will be procured any time soon, certainly not before EDMUs or electric locos, one or both, are...

Nickel, but close enough: https://apnews.com/article/indonesia-nickel-deforestation-rainforest-mining-tesla-ev-184550cddf1df6aad8e883862ab366df I'm still a bigger fan of electrification without batteries, but who knows, maybe the next battery tech breakthrough is right around the corner...

To be fair, they said very low, not zero emissions... Lithium mining is very dirty compared to doing nothing, regardless of clear cutting rainforests or not. Tailings, waste products, emissions etc. That's just to get it out of the ground. Even then, it beats fossil fuels pulled out of the...

That is true, however, we're commiserating about the defective vehicles leading to slowdowns that would negate time savings found elsewhere (TSP, dwell times, etc...) Surely one can expect the TTC to gingerly drive them so as to mitigate the impact on the bottom lines of the vehicle maintainers.

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

Broken clock, right twice a day. Rich NIMBYs can coincidentally have the same interests as most of the public at large. I think it's been established that Billy Bishop is uniquely close to its CBD, the Financial District. At under 2 km as the crow flies. No, those other examples aren't 4 km...

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

Have you seen how unreliable the TTC elevators are? Even a 1% chance a patient is trapped in a subway station needing to be awkwardly hauled up stairs is 1% too high. Not to mention that many of the elevators will not fit a gurney. Person on the tracks or worse, what happens then to the patient...
