Why does the DP say that it's going to be 24 storeys? I assume we've got the right reporting here

Yeah I'd be surprised for anything above 165, and even that would require quite a few double-storey or extra height floors for things like mech, lobby, retail, amenities, penthouses - which may or may not be treated separately anyway.

    Calgary | First on 17th | 140m | 47s | Western Securities | o2 Planning and Design

My methods might be sketchy, but judging by the massing diagram provided, assuming it's accurate, the taller of two towers might be closer to 170-180m - just comparing its size to the shortest Broadway tower (113.5m), which it is more or less on the same plane as. That would be an average...

Transit to what? I ask this in good faith, maybe there's something I'm not considering! Especially if a grocery store goes in at Broadway or somewhere nearby, just about every day-to-day need will be satisfied n the area. It's already got a Best Buy and Canadian Tire, clothing stores, etc. and...

    Fairmont Hotel | ?m | ?s | Truman

This + the fact that it's a brand as luxury as Fairmont? They're gonna want a ridiculous amount of amenities, high ceilings, large rooms. If the height to unit ratio is on par, or higher than Stampede Station's (0.70m per unit+key - not ideal to combine these, but it's okay given the proportion...

Great, we're only 3 orders of magnitude from our funding target!

Isn't the plan to eventually build 4 towers here? If they need to dig a new foundation for each, why not redo the whole parkade in one go?

    Calgary | 61st Ave Residential | 64m | 19s | Cadillac Fairview | Zeidler

I'm noticing some 'eye shadow' removed from the tops of the top windows, and the lighting makes the massing a lot more clear. Like I said previously I've never been a hater on this building, but a slightly shinier render really does make it look a lot better!

    Calgary | Stampede Station | 273.5m | 67s | Truman | NORR

How is this a problem for us, but not Toronto? Or any other city with supertalls for that matter LOL, a little frustrated but mainly curious. Does this basically make it impossible to build supertalls in Calgary, or would it just have to be elsewhere in Downtown?

    Calgary | Stampede Station | 273.5m | 67s | Truman | NORR

The balconyslop is really really horrendous. It looks super unintentional and slapped on last second, and we lose most of the interest and patterning in the original design. I can respect even trying to differentiate each tower a bit, but they've taken so much character away, it looks randomized...

    Calgary | Kensington Yards | 130m | 38s | Bankside | Allies and Morrison

We really have to be careful about self-subjection in this conversation - why are we creating an imagined opponent in our heads to squander ourselves with instead of just fighting for what we want? This is what I mean when I say we have a small city mindset, it's infected even people that...

    Calgary | Kensington Yards | 130m | 38s | Bankside | Allies and Morrison

Just to make it 100% explicit - this is the moment where we decide - is Calgary a big city, or a small town? Can we manage a population of 2 million and growing, in a sustainable and resilient way, or are we doomed to continue spreading thin and purchasing from our future selves? We need...

    Calgary | Kensington Yards | 130m | 38s | Bankside | Allies and Morrison

Bus lanes on 14 St anyone? It's pretty serious N-S corridor that could use a major rethinking, especially once it crosses the Bow. There are several suitable sites for high rises all along 14 St, and whenever lifecycle comes up for the junction on 16 Avenue it would probably be wisest to toss...
