And that is sad. They have a terrific legacy.

I believe he has the world’s third largest fog producing machine. Happy to stand corrected on that, of course.

I just don’t understand the design logic of finishing the building with a large grey mechanical box. It just looks utterly out of place. Why not at least extend the ‘red’ columns to keep the aesthetic a bit more coherent.

I disagree. From a distance, the view of midtown in New York City is dominated by the supertalls. But wandering the streets reveals multiple beautiful buildings from different architectural eras that are well worth seeing. It is their unique aesthetic that is the draw. And standing next to one...

    Toronto Toronto | Bauhaus Condos | 110.9m | 32s | Lamb Dev Corp | a—A

They actually have the gall to call this the Bauhaus Condos. As if aA haven’t been building versions of this same condo for 15 years. This is exactly the flaw, for me, of the principles of modernism in architecture- the stripping away of decorative elements. Who goes to New York to look at One...

A sunrise shot from my condo. I think this building and 8 Elm are both going to look great, especially at this time of day. I believe this building is going to look better than expected. Fingers crossed.

But at least it’s ’Modern’ dentistry. Perfectly sums up a large part of the Toronto aesthetic.

a-A out-blands themselves again. They have talent, yet keep repeating versions of buildings they’ve done over and over. Exposed black mechanical level? Really? At least with buildings like Casa II, they created an interesting crown. Being stuck in the modernist box they have put themselves in...

    Toronto Toronto | 241 Redpath | 148.6m | 43s | Carttera | a—A

I just find it uninspired and, to be frank, lazy. But if that’s really what the client wanted, then aA certainly delivered. I just think they are capable of so much more, as they have proven. I remember when someone complained back in the 2010 era that aA kept designing slightly different...

    Toronto Toronto | 241 Redpath | 148.6m | 43s | Carttera | a—A

You’d think after so many years, that aA could come up with something more original. They have the ability; I just don’t know why they don’t expand their design aesthetic more often. Are clients really saying, “I want a building that looks like the one you did in 2010?”

    Toronto Toronto | Concord Sky | 300.2m | 85s | Concord Adex | Kohn Pedersen Fox

A bit hyperbolic, if you ask me. I’ve been to 57 countries and I can tell you that there are many cities with architecture worse than Toronto. If you walk around and really look at the built environment, there are some very interesting buildings, from low rise to high rise. I get that the...

Apparently none of them were grey before they started looking at those towers 20 minutes earlier. Can’t confirm the source of that info, though.

    Toronto Toronto | The Pemberton | 215.79m | 68s | Pemberton | a—A

I sometimes find that ONLY using punctuation in a sentence can help with clarity. Give that a shot. When aA are given a chance at designing and that original design is actually built as rendered, they can produce some interesting buildings. When not, they produce the blandness that is 8...
