    Downtown Real Estate

To be blunt, there isn't all that much tourism potential here, not compared to Calgary, and that's why a lot more effort will be needed. Jasper remains the best potential driver. If it wasn't for that Edmonton's tourism draw would max at Saskatchewan levels. But Jasper is nowhere near...

    Edmonton | Exhibition Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

This seems like a move that people will regret someday. Ditto with Saddledome if Calgary follows through. Is there something with the Alberta psyche that makes following Vancouver's lead on these things impossible to do? The city still has its flaws, but they've done a lot of things right that...

    Currents of Windermere

Its definitely not the urbanist ideal of 15 minute neighborhood, but it is a functional one. It won't be thought of as TOD either with low likelihood of LRT ever getting there, but it'll work well for people who have jobs that won't ever be transit friendly, people who spend a lot of time away...

    Edmonton | Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

It'll be a five car train with no passengers if it doesn't offer a speed advantage though. Most commuters aren't train or transit idealists, they just want a fast affordable way to get where they need to go. In almost every case, speed wins. For far flung areas, BRT also has more flexibility...

    Edmonton | Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Valid feedback on the rail yard contention, I'm not really in a position to argue that. But if the busy rail yards in Vancouver can fit in a few west coast express trains, I'm sure something could be done if the will was there. I think you touched on something important though, if LRT from the...

    Low Level Bridge

That routing already exists though, I've ridden it hundreds of times... The only roads you need to cross are the exits to Connors rd south which see very little traffic, then onward to the SE LRT bridge. You can get all the way to oliver with only one more road crossing. And all the way to...

    Low Level Bridge

Nothing in that article sounds encouraging to me. BRT on HLB scope creep aside, while keeping one of the low level bridges for active use sounds good at first glance, the footings make the bike paths underneath incredibly unsafe. I've lost track of how many near collisions I've had through...

    Currents of Windermere

Sorry fellas, I think I might be to blame for this.. A couple of years back, after an ungodly amount of Dark & Stormy's while 'camping', I'd mentioned to some [REDACTED] folks how convenient living near Oliver square had been when I was younger, having groceries, pubs and other amenities...

    Edmonton Region Hospitals and Healthcare

Well at the risk of re-railing the healthcare thread (haha) from what I understand the province received at least two unsolicited proposals for HSR projects, but per comments at the open house session, they don't want to give control of the corridor to private interests. I suppose we won't know...

    Edmonton Region Hospitals and Healthcare

Well I won't disagree that the hospital bed ratio seems low in Alberta. And with the surge in population growth in recent years the ratio will continue to drop. So how does Alberta go about fixing this? As I recall you, and others, felt the province shouldn't be looking to build HSR because of...

    Edmonton Region Hospitals and Healthcare

The unicity model really has served Calgary well as it grows. There's definitely some overhead cost to just having a facility that could have been spent on more beds in fewer facilities. I've been thinking of consolidation possibilities as I've built the list, but none really jump out other...

    Edmonton Region Hospitals and Healthcare

Yeah the overall ratio will likely drop, metro pop could be getting pretty close to 2 million by the mid 2030s when Stollery is complete. But as Calgary has very similar growth rates, the ratios between the regions should still be pretty comparable.

    Edmonton Region Hospitals and Healthcare

Good catch, thanks. Appreciate everyone's constructive feedback. I double checked some of the other entries too, wiki had some conflicting data for the St Albert hospital. Other sources confirmed the larger number so I've updated that as well. Out of curiosity, I thought I'd see what the new...

    Edmonton Region Hospitals and Healthcare

Yeah, did some more digging and the wiki stats are misleading. 885 does appear to be accurate for UofA, but it included beds for the heart institute, and the Stolery, which also apparently has beds at the Royal Alex. Chart updated again, Edmonton numbers are looking less good..
