GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Is this going to be the first April in awhile without a change in GO service levels?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I’ll eat my hat if the April major weekend closure is the start of building a proper retaining wall to support the construction of the second track south of Agincourt GO. The project data was scrubbed from the autumn 2025 GO Expansion update to the City of Toronto, but the 2024 update stated a...

I’m going to lay out sections of third and fourth track that need to come online before they can fully go into service. Perhaps summer 2028? I may be missing some details on the following path dependencies. USRC to East Harbour station - The 3rd track needs to be reinstalled as you cross the...

In the last 12-18 months has there not been significant turnover in Metrolinx management? CEO out. New head of CPG. Half a dozen managers involved in Eglinton Crosstown let go around the time Verster fired etc. I think the mindset of everything will be better if [only a new CEO, new Premier...

Agreed. Perhaps my /s sarcasm tag was missed. My last few posts have been facetious in nature.

Since the weekend closure referenced in the video that was used to upgrade sewer, drainage and installed a proper retaining wall for the signal mast south of Agincourt GO more concrete blocks have stacked up against the recently installed retaining wall. There could be retaining wall...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

**Big upgrades** to the small creek construction zone on the April 11-12 closure. A few more concrete blocks will be placed to hold the signal mast in place south of Agincourt. /s What type of construction work is happening? During the closure, crews are conducting necessary maintenance on...

https://assets.metrolinx.com/image/upload/Images/Metrolinx/OL_Notice_PapeEastern_trackwork_March2026_FINAL.pdf This notice reads as the third (and potentially fourth) track will be installed between East Harbour transit hub and wherever the switch for the fourth track siding is installed west...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

The second track on the Stouffville line that was laid during the pandemic but never entered service near the Finch level crossing has been pulled up. I’m sure it’s related to the grade separation project.

I believe every levels crossing in Markham will be upgraded to have pedestrian gates/arms installed. The prep work was done almost a year ago. Two level crossings in Stouffville are being upgraded this year for whistle cessation, so I imagine they’ll be installed there too.

https://assets.metrolinx.com/image/upload/Images/Metrolinx/BiWeekly_In-Corridor_Update_LSE-03-20-2026.pdf Installing the third and fourth track through the East Harbour/LSE corridor is to begin soon. Not that this track will be in service anytime soon given the track shifts needed for platform...

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

I’m sure the service levels and general costs in the economy are much higher than the original contract signed in 2012. Outside of data in a press release I don’t have an ability to assess if it’s a good or bad renewal as headlines do not convey useful information (maintenance staffing numbers...

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

The former contract that went to the end of 2023 was for ~$100mm per year based on its press release. I don’t know if there was inflation or cost pass through provisions that made the cost higher throughout the life of the contract.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I'm going to commit the cardinal sin of extrapolating experience in one field to a generalization in all fields. I work in finance. The best leadership teams I've worked for are often mediocre investors but great leaders who create a culture that enable risk takers to deploy capital. On the...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I’m not holding my breath on 2036 given the pace of construction to get 2AWD diesel train service at a15-30 minute cadence. There’s still so much utility relocation, bridge and grade separation, track to be laid (2nd, 3rd and 4th track), track to be moved to its final position, switches to be...
