Where are those investors that are willing to build downtown calibre design?

Edmonton is growing. Just not enough jobs downtown to entice more people to live in new highrise towers. High earners in Edmonton working in the energy sector are the blue collar type vs those in Calgary who want to be close to their office buildings. Just a different set of demographics...

Is there any real incentive to keep businesses downtown or expand their space? I don;t think the City has such program. They City's various programs fail year in and year out by handing out subsidies to restaurants and such....subsidies should be directed toward businesses that bring employees...

You need more jobs downtown. That's the bottom line. Jobs will attract retail and restaurant services and will attract hotels etc...Edmonton doubled in size in the last 30 years but all we get is the same copy paste suburban plazas (same restaurants) and big box stores. All you need to do is...

22 stalls....that's it. They will never be able to make a hotel work with that unless they can secure parking somewhere else and then they will need to provide valet service to all occupants. that's a huge expense irrespective of occupancy rates.

The newly converted Element hotel in downtown Calgary is quite successful. I hope someone can replicate that here.

International and Transborder decrease is due to consolidation at YYC. Many flights to the US have been removed and since Sunwing's absorption into WestJet, many routes have completely disappeared at YEG.

YYC benefits from a sleepy DeadEdmonton. Don't blame Calgary. Where are the attractions that have been built in the Edmonton area to attract tourists? Where are the big corporations that have filled downtown offices with high paying corporate jobs.

Porter will be flying direct to Montreal's smaller airport Saint Hubert starting June 16 - prices are amazing. There will be 6 dailies to Montreal (4 AC and 2 Porter) this summer. I don't get why WestJet cancelled the service,

1) it's always a function of quality as well..Aside from the JW and Fairmont, hotels in Edmonton's core properties are tired (like really tired) with sub-par service. What you get is what you pay. If hotels want to charge more, then fix your rooms and justify the higher rate. 2) We need more...

More cheap build will lead to more cheap build....what's the incentive for anyone to build good quality anymore if the standard is too low. Scrap the subsidies.

This is student housing project in a town about 1 hour drive from Toronto...But still they are going for quality and beautiful architecture. It just shows how much local developers in Edmonton have lowered the bar so low that we end up with garbage right in the centre of the city coming from...

This building looks very suburban...Yikes....less than a block away from Edmonton's main street!! What a disaster.
