That building setback is great for shadowing and keeping those patios in the sun. A great model for that side of 17th Avenue.

Overall, this is a win. Could have used bigger windows throughout. Could have been taller. I'll be curious to see the colour in real life because in pictures it looks like a miss. I'm wondering how the crucial 17th Av streetscape will turn out.

Those 12 metre separations were done way before tower separation was considered best practice in urban design. Even 10 years ago when I was working in Calgary City Hall, tower separation was a consideration for City Hall urban designers in the Beltline and Downtown. The 18-24 metre best practice...

That whole riverside should have very tall buildings. Only problem is the floodplain with deep parkades

Absolutely love how the neglected east side of 17th Avenue, east of 4 Street, is finally reaching its potential after several long decades.

I lived in Ottawa for a while and I took their LRT precursor, the diesel powered light rail Line 2. It was successful and I never heard of any problems. I don't know how electrification went so horribly wrong in Ottawa when it works so well in cold-weather Edmonton and Calgary.

Interesting that they are copying the window style. It kind of works. These windows that barely open for any fresh air is not my thing though.

Yeah, tearing down that rare heritage building was a mistake. We make a lot of efforts saving a couple good buildings and pat ourselves on the back while happily tearing down the rest.
