I hate the back side of this development so much. It feels like this tower is opening its robe to flash the public with the mess that lays underneath

Regrettably, this does make a lot of sense. Particularly with an expanded YTZ and Ontario Place.....

I'm not saying it's wanted or ideal, but if the Duke of Toronto wants it then there are less terrible places for it to go

That's very fair, and it wouldn't integrate with the existing shoreline very well over there. I still think that the best infill option that keeps the convention centre close to the core would be to infill this area. You could easily fit 2M sqft on a property this size across two levels...

Not a bad idea to be honest. If it was filled in then a new and expanded ferry terminal could be built at the new shoreline.

Well if they're going to fill in the lake to build a cruise terminal, they might as well keep filling and build the convention centre right there too. Take a page from Vancouver's book.

This is so incredibly ugly. The vertical white elements are kind of interesting, it would be cool if they were spread across the entire facade. I do wonder if the continued trend of non-replacement of office space will bite us in the butt in the long run.

From my observation, this really feels like the only part of the lake which could be infilled to create a large enough block for development without creating a literal new island. Everywhere else would either be too far away from the core or wouldn't fit into the area

If I had to guess I'd say that it's an Orange Theory or a similar type of studio. This space seems to small for an open gym.

    Toronto 66 Wellesley East | 120.79m | 36s | MOD / Montez | DSAI

There is something to be said about this being the default architectural expression of our times; I would call it austere referentialism. This type of construction is common in Toronto developments of the last 15 years, where the podium makes reference to the historic character of the...

This is miles better than the last iteration. I love the ground level brick work, it feels very respectful of the neighbourhood. And I'm happy anytime a tower isn't plonked right on the corner.

Knowing Doug I'm sure this is all a ploy to make Exhibition unusable for the CNE so it can be plonked down on a convenient parcel next to a new highway somewhere in the GTA

Wow that street level podium at John street is gorgeous

Holy moly, seeing it from a bird's eye view really emphasizes how large the parking structure is smh. Why they won't put it on the Exhibition grounds I'll never know.
